Hantam Local Municipality is a local municipality in Northern Cape, covering 39 085 square kilometres. It falls within the Namakwa District Municipality. It takes in the towns and settlements of Brandvlei, Calvinia, Loeriesfontein, Middelpos, Nieuwoudtville and Onderste Doorns.

Census 2022 counted 22 281 residents, making it the 23rd most populous of the 31 municipalities in Northern Cape and 247th of 257 nationally. That works out to 0.6 people per square kilometre. The population is very sparsely distributed across a large area. There are 5 326 households, averaging 4.2 people each. 25.4% of residents are under 15 and 9.3% are over 65. Among residents aged 20 and over, 7.8% hold a higher education qualification and 7.2% have had no schooling.

The council has 13 seats across 5 parties, with ANC holding the largest share at 7 seats (53.8%). ANC governs the municipality. Mr Koos Alexander (Chairperson: Budget and Treasury) serves as executive mayor (ANC), and Mr JJ Fortuin is municipal manager.
