Cookie policy

This policy explains the cookies used on MunicipalitiesSA and how to control them. It sits alongside the privacy policy.

Effective from 1 August 2026.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. It lets a site remember something between page views, such as a preference you set. Similar technologies, including local storage and tracking pixels, do comparable things and are covered by this policy.

Cookies this site sets

Strictly necessary

These are required for the site to function and cannot be switched off through the site.

  • Session and security cookies. Set when you submit the contact form, to verify the submission came from this site and not from an automated script. They expire when the session ends.
  • Preference cookies. If you change a display setting, the choice is remembered so it does not reset on every page.

Analytics

Where analytics are in use, they set cookies that help us understand which pages are read, how people arrive at the site, and where they leave. We use this in aggregate, to decide what to improve.

Advertising

Where the site carries advertising, the advertising network and its partners may set cookies to measure how advertisements perform and, unless you opt out, to personalise which ones you see.

How to control cookies

Every major browser lets you see the cookies stored, delete them, and block them for particular sites or entirely. The controls are usually under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking all cookies will still let you read this site, since none of the content is behind a login, but the contact form may not submit successfully.

Do Not Track

There is no agreed standard for how sites should respond to a browser Do Not Track signal, so we do not currently change our behaviour based on it. The opt-out links above are the effective way to limit personalised advertising.

Changes

If the cookies in use change, this page changes with them. Questions can go to [email protected].
