Prince Albert Local Municipality
Prince Albert Local Municipality is a local municipality in Western Cape, covering 8 153 square kilometres. It falls within the Central Karoo District Municipality. It takes in the towns and settlements of Klaarstroom, Leeu Gamka, Prince Albert and Welgemoed.
Census 2022 counted 17 836 residents, making it the 29th most populous of the 30 municipalities in Western Cape and 250th of 257 nationally. That works out to 2.2 people per square kilometre. The population is very sparsely distributed across a large area. There are 4 760 households, averaging 3.7 people each. 28.8% of residents are under 15 and 6.4% are over 65. Among residents aged 20 and over, 6.4% hold a higher education qualification and 5.0% have had no schooling.
The council has 7 seats across 4 parties, with DA holding the largest share at 4 seats (57.1%). DA governs the municipality. Mrs Linda Kathryn Jaquet serves as executive mayor (DA), and Adv Mathys Giliomee is municipal manager.
