What this site is

MunicipalitiesSA is an independent reference site publishing information about South African local government, compiled from published government sources. It is not a government website, and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any municipality, provincial government, national department or state institution.

Using the site

You may read, search, quote and link to anything published here. You may not:

• Use the site or its data for anything unlawful.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site, its servers, or connected systems.
• Interfere with the site’s operation, including by placing unreasonable load on it through automated requests.
• Use the contact form or any address published here to send unsolicited commercial messages.
• Harvest personal information from the site for marketing purposes.

Automated access

We publish an open API precisely so that the data can be used programmatically without scraping the pages. Please use it. Automated requests should identify themselves honestly and stay at a reasonable rate. We may block access that degrades the service for other people.

The data

The underlying facts published here, including financial figures, census statistics, boundaries, audit outcomes and the names of office holders, are public information produced by government bodies. We do not claim ownership of those facts, and you are free to use them.

The original material on this site, including the written descriptions, the analysis articles, the financial health scoring method, the maps as rendered here, the design and the source code, is our copyright. You may quote it with attribution and a link. You may not republish it wholesale.

Accuracy

We take care over accuracy, and correct errors when they are reported. We do not warrant that everything here is correct, current or complete. Please read the disclaimer, which forms part of these terms.

Third-party links

The site links to municipal websites and to documents hosted by government. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices.

Advertising

The site may carry advertising. Advertisements are supplied by third-party networks and their presence is not an endorsement by us of the advertiser, the product or the service. Any dealing you have with an advertiser is between you and them.

Availability

We aim to keep the site available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it at any time.
