Langeberg Local Municipality
Langeberg Local Municipality is a local municipality in Western Cape, covering 4 518 square kilometres. It falls within the Cape Winelands District Municipality. It takes in the towns and settlements of Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor, Montagu and Robertson.
Census 2022 counted 94 045 residents, making it the 19th most populous of the 30 municipalities in Western Cape and 190th of 257 nationally. That works out to 20.8 people per square kilometre. Population is spread thinly across the area. There are 25 370 households, averaging 3.7 people each. 22.6% of residents are under 15 and 7.6% are over 65. Among residents aged 20 and over, 9.2% hold a higher education qualification and 5.0% have had no schooling.
The council has 23 seats across 7 parties, with DA holding the largest share at 11 seats (47.8%). It is governed by a coalition: DA/PDM. Mr SW van Eeden serves as executive mayor (DA), and Mr D Lubbe is municipal manager.
