Maphumulo Local Municipality
Maphumulo Local Municipality is a local municipality in KwaZulu-Natal, covering 896 square kilometres. It falls within the iLembe District Municipality.
Census 2022 counted 110 983 residents, making it the 43rd most populous of the 54 municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal and 175th of 257 nationally. That works out to 123.9 people per square kilometre. Settlement is concentrated rather than scattered. There are 20 397 households, averaging 5.4 people each. 34.7% of residents are under 15 and 7.6% are over 65. Among residents aged 20 and over, 5.0% hold a higher education qualification and 20.8% have had no schooling.
The council has 23 seats across 4 parties, with ANC holding the largest share at 11 seats (47.8%). Hung Council governs the municipality. Mrs Zibuyisile Khuzwayo-Dlamini serves as executive mayor (ANC), and Mr T Khuluse is municipal manager.

Its most recent audit outcome was recorded as “financially unqualified”.
