Frances Baard District Municipality is a district municipality in Northern Cape, covering 13 002 square kilometres. It coordinates 4 local municipalities: Dikgatlong, Magareng, Phokwane and Sol Plaatje. It takes in 9 recognised towns and settlements, among them Barkly West, Delportshoop, Hartswater, Jan Kempdorp, Kimberley, Pampierstat, Ritchie, Warrenton.

Census 2022 counted 434 343 residents, making it the 1st most populous of the 31 municipalities in Northern Cape and 61st of 257 nationally. That works out to 33.4 people per square kilometre. Population is spread thinly across the area. There are 109 089 households, averaging 4.0 people each. 27.5% of residents are under 15 and 6.6% are over 65. Among residents aged 20 and over, 9.7% hold a higher education qualification and 6.2% have had no schooling.

The council has 29 seats across 6 parties, with ANC holding the largest share at 15 seats (51.7%). ANC governs the municipality. Mr Patrick Marekwa serves as executive mayor (ANC), and Ms Mamikie Bogatsu is municipal manager.
