uMngeni Local Municipality is a local municipality in KwaZulu-Natal, covering 1 521 square kilometres. It falls within the uMgungundlovu District Municipality. It takes in the towns and settlements of Hilton and Howick.

Census 2022 counted 105 069 residents, making it the 45th most populous of the 54 municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal and 180th of 257 nationally. That works out to 69.1 people per square kilometre. Population is spread thinly across the area. There are 27 094 households, averaging 3.9 people each. 21.2% of residents are under 15 and 12.0% are over 65. Among residents aged 20 and over, 20.4% hold a higher education qualification and 4.1% have had no schooling.

The council has 25 seats across 3 parties, with DA holding the largest share at 13 seats (52.0%). DA governs the municipality. Mr Christopher Pappas serves as executive mayor (DA), and Mr Mzingisi Hloba is municipal manager.
