Alfred Nzo District Municipality is a district municipality in Eastern Cape, covering 10 731 square kilometres. It coordinates 4 local municipalities: Matatiele, Ntabankulu, Umzimvubu and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. It takes in the towns and settlements of Bizana, Cedarville, KwaBhaca (Mount Frere), Matatiele, Tabankulu and eMaxesibeni (Mount Ayliff).

Census 2022 counted 936 462 residents, making it the 4th most populous of the 39 municipalities in Eastern Cape and 24th of 257 nationally. That works out to 87.3 people per square kilometre. Population is spread thinly across the area. There are 198 300 households, averaging 4.7 people each. 35.8% of residents are under 15 and 6.6% are over 65. Among residents aged 20 and over, 7.4% hold a higher education qualification and 8.2% have had no schooling.

The council has 16 seats across 3 parties, with ANC holding the largest share at 13 seats (81.3%). ANC governs the municipality. Ms Tsileng Sobuthongo serves as executive mayor (ANC), and n/a is municipal manager.
