Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality is a district municipality in North West, covering 43 753 square kilometres. It coordinates 5 local municipalities: Greater Taung, Kagisano-Molopo, Lekwa-Teemane, Mamusa and Naledi (NW). It takes in 11 recognised towns and settlements, among them Amalia, Bloemhof, Christiana, Piet Plessis, Pomfret, Pudimoe, Reivilo, Schweizer-Reneke.

Census 2022 counted 508 192 residents, making it the 6th most populous of the 22 municipalities in North West and 52nd of 257 nationally. That works out to 11.6 people per square kilometre. Population is spread thinly across the area. There are 132 094 households, averaging 3.8 people each. 32.7% of residents are under 15 and 6.5% are over 65. Among residents aged 20 and over, 5.1% hold a higher education qualification and 13.1% have had no schooling.

The council has 11 seats across 3 parties, with ANC holding the largest share at 7 seats (63.6%). ANC governs the municipality. Mr Motseokae Alpheus Maje serves as executive mayor (ANC), and Mr IR Jonas is municipal manager.
